None of our team has done a team event before, so this will be a new experience for all of us. It should in most respects seem much like any other brevet: There will be controls along the way where we will be required to have our Route Card stamped and the time recorded, and the requirements for night riding gear are much the same. Please review these rules if you need to or e-mail me if you are unsure about anything. There are however some differences as well: At the end of our 22nd hour of riding we must have our card stamped with the time and location. This ensures that we cover at least 25km in the final two hours. For us this will mean getting our card stamped at Athens, AL at 5:00 AM that Sunday and then riding the final 22 miles to Huntsville, arriving as close to 7:00 AM as possible. Another difference is the requirement that at least three of us finish together. Our goal, of course will be for all of us to finish together. This means that we must all understand that each team member will experience energy fluctuations, and that these fluctuations will almost certainly not occur at the same time. When you are feeling your strongest, one of your teammates may be feeling their weakest, or vice-versa. It will be important for all of us to keep this in mind as we try to reach Huntsville as a group. Before the date of the ride gets here, there are a few items that each of us will need to take care of: 1. Register for the 360k Arrow event HERE. Free of Charge. 2. Join the Harpeth Bike Club. A requirement for this ride. Go HERE. $25. 3. If you want a medal you must be a RUSA member before the ride. You can join HERE. $20. We will need to work out transportation for the return trip from Huntsville. Please e-mail me (kevinwarren1@hotmail.com), to let me know if you need transportation, or if you can provide return transportation for another team member. As it says on the Harpeth Website, most riders wil be using the Huntsville Marriot for post-ride showers and a meal If you have questions about anything else, just drop me an e-mail. I look forward to riding with everyone. It should be a fun trip. |
